Sympathy to Meg, Libby and all the Phillips family on the loss of Claude Phillips

RALEIGH—Claude Douglas Phillips, Sr., 70, of Rock Quarry Road died Saturday. A native of Wake Co. he was the son of the late, Douglas and Margaret Bagwell Phillips, and a 1958 graduate of Garner High School. Claude drove his dump truck for 10 years after farming tobacco for 26 years. Even though he was a successful farmer he would be the first to tell you that the best crop he ever helped raise was his 5 children and 12 grandchildren. He loved the land and he loved his family. Claude was preceded in death by his step daughter Wendy Rose whom he loved very much.

Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Tuesday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be Wednesday.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Patricia Phillips; his four children, Suzanne Mitchell and husband, Brian of Goldsboro, Libby Pearce of Clearwater Beach, FL, Meg Dare and husband, Mike of Garner, Doug Phillips and wife, Stephanie of Garner; sister, Anne Holland and husband, Henry of Raleigh; grandchildren, Matt, Megan and Roscoe Pearce of Clearwater, Beach, FL; Luke, Phillip and Ben Mitchell of Goldsboro, Mitch, Montana, Jeremy and Claudia Dare, Jacob and Sam Phillips; nephew, Deuce Wall and wife, Kathy all of Garner and his faithful dog, Cocoa.
